PE
At Heatherside Infant School every child in the Early Years Foundation and Key Stage 1 is encouraged to follow a physically active and healthy lifestyle where they can succeed and achieve their full potential. We believe that a high-quality physical education curriculum should inspire all pupils to create a positive relationship with physical activity for life. We provide a safe and stimulating environment so that children can achieve this holistically.
Through our PE curriculum we aim to give children the building blocks to build on throughout their life. PE is taught as an area of learning in its own right, as well as integrated where possible with other curriculum areas. In addition, we offer a range of after school clubs to progress skill development with strong links to local community clubs. Our PE curriculum contributes towards 'happy confident children with a passion for learning' where we inspire children to enjoy being physically active, whether that be through team sports, dance, athletics, gymnastics and much more.
In Year R, the children have lots of opportunities for physical development. Our outdoor canopy area is a great place for children to set up their own games to practise skills such as throwing, catching, kicking, balancing and more!
In the autumn term Year 2 have hockey coaching where they can apply the skills learnt in multiskills lessons.
Our Year 1 children join the Year 1 children from Fleet Infants School to take part in our World Sports Morning which is based on the ethos of the Olympics. Our children join Year 1 children from the other school to become a small team and they work together to earn points for their Olympic countries.
In the summer, a few children form a team to join other schools from the Hart area to take part in a selection of physical and competitive activities known as District Sports.
