Sports Premium
School Sports Premium
The Government is allocating extra funding directly to Primary schools specifically for improving physical education (PE) and sport.
Schools can choose how they use the funding, for example to:
- hire specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers during PE lessons
- support and involve the least active children by running after-school sports clubs and holiday clubs
- provide resources and training courses in PE and sport for teachers
- run sport competitions or increase pupils' participation
- run sports activities with other schools
Accountability
Since September 2013, Ofsted report on PE and sport provision and on how schools spend their additional funding.
Schools are also held accountable through the Government requirement to publish on their websites, details of how they spend (or will spend) their PE and sports premium. They must also include detail about the impact this funding has on pupils' PE and sport participation and attainment.
Please refer to the documents below regarding the use of sports premium funding at Heatherside Infant School.
Physical Education using Physical Literacy
Vision Statement
- All children will access a high quality, physically demanding and challenging education programme, delivered by teachers and Coaches (SCL), using physical literacy to develop the generic movements skills, which underpin lifelong participation.
- Teaching and Learning will be progressive and regularly assessed to ensure that all children develop competence and confidence through a broad range of activities thus having the skills to lead a healthy and active lifestyle.
- Pupils learn physical, social, thinking skills to support collaboration and communication with their peers and apply these throughout life.
- Within our curriculum all pupils will experience competition to demonstrate and celebrate personal achievements. Some pupils will experience competition at a higher level. Year 1 children will work with children from Fleet Infants school, using the School Games framework, competing in mixed school groups.
- Our extracurricular clubs, led by appropriately qualified coaches, are offered to every child and this continues to extend and reinforce generic skill development
- Playtime provision will develop leadership and ownership whilst continuing to allow pupils to have the opportunity to become more physically active.
