Computing
Through our computing curriculum at Heatherside Infant School, we aim to give our children life skills and develop transferable skills that will enable them to embrace and utilise new technology in a socially responsible and safe way. Not only do we want them to be digitally literate and competent users of technology through our computing lessons, we also want them to develop creativity, resilience, problem-solving and critical thinking skills. We want the use of technology to support learning across the entire curriculum and to ensure that our curriculum is accessible to every child, to best prepare them for the next stage of their education, and beyond.
The core of computing is computer science, in which children are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work, and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. Building on this knowledge and understanding, they are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content. Computing also ensures that children become digitally literate, where they are able to use and express themselves and develop their ideas through information and communications technology at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world.
Online Safety
The internet is a great place to learn and have fun but we want to make sure it is also a safe place for children. Below are a number of websites which contain helpful information about keeping your child safe online. Throughout our computing curriculum, children learn how they can stay safe when online.
